Yeshiva Gedolah Imrei Yosef D’Spinka
A 120-year tradition of Torah, Halacha and Chassidus

Mission

From the 2026-2027 academic catalog.

The mission of Yeshiva Gedolah Imrei Yosef is to create a vibrant postsecondary makom Torah that fosters rigorous Torah study together with the refinement of character and spiritual growth that define the Spinka derech. At the same time, we extend this mission to embrace students of diverse backgrounds and abilities, nurturing each talmid with warmth, patience, and confidence in his potential. In a calm and caring environment, we emphasize progress over pressure, and strength over struggle.

Guided by Halacha, Mussar, and Chassidic Yiddishkeit, we strive to raise true bnei aliyah: joyful in their learning, steadfast in their yiras Shomayim, and inspired to carry the light of Torah proudly into the future.

Mission goals

Our history

The Chakal Yitzchok undertook leadership of the Yeshiva in 1909 and broadened its emphasis on Gemara, Rashi, Tosafos and the Rishonim. After the war, Rabbi Jacob Weisz and a small group of survivors reestablished the Spinka Chassidus in America in 1947. In 1974 Rabbi Naftali Weisz, backed by a board of directors, began a Spinka Yeshiva in Boro Park, and in 1986 a postsecondary department was added: Yeshiva Gedolah Imrei Yosef D’Spinka.
